Madytus was the port at which Xerxes disembarked his army when he invaded Greece: the symbols on the coins represent its maritime situation (fish), the worship of Dionysos and Demeter (vine leaf, kantharos, grain ear). The dog could refer to Hecuba, who threw herself into the sea from nearby and was transformed into a dog.
